The number of pupils achieving 5 higher GCSEs including English & Maths has increased by 9% from 2009 to 58%. The pass rate has now risen for the 4th year in a row from 57% in 2006 to its current all time high.

The number of pupils achieving at least 5 passes (A*-G) has risen to 94% and again almost every student has left the school with at least one qualification.

The school has sustained its improvement at A Level from 2009.

More than 1 in 4 entries – 26% - gained the highest grades (A*/A) up from 15% in 2008, whilst the overall pass rate remains stable at 97%. Students achieving the top 3 grades overall was 50%.

The subjects securing 100% pass rate for students were:

Art; Biology; Business; Chemistry; Computer Studies; Dance; Drama; Economics; English Literature; Food; French; Further Maths; German; History; Media Studies; Music; PE; Product Design; RE; Sociology.

Subjects in which two-thirds or higher of Arnold Hill students achieved passes from A*-B were:

Business; English Literature; Further Maths; Maths; Media.

1 in 12 A Level examinations (8%) have been awarded the A* grade to students at Arnold Hill.

The pass rate stayed the same for the third year. However the number of higher grades has sustained its significant increase for the second year running.

The new A* grade was introduced for the first time this year in order to enable universities to pick out the best students, and to provide a higher level of challenge. To gain an A*, a student was required to gain an A overall whilst also gaining at least 90% in each paper in their second year of the course. It had been predicted by Ofqual, the exams regulator, that 7% of students would gain an A* in the first year.

112 students in Y13 at Arnold Hill were entered for exams this year.

Notable performances in terms of A/A*:

A2 – 3A+
Rory Cook – A*AAA
Nick Heeley – A*A*A*A*

Jack Quarton – A*A*AAC
