Anyone for Quidditch?

On Wednesday, 31st October, Hogwarts came to Arnold Hill!

The Science Department held the school's first Quidditch match, in the Main School quad during the afternoon. The day saw the apparent arrival of Harry Potter, Professor Snape and various other professors from the proclaimed academy at Arnold Hill. Upon arrival at platform NG5? they promptly took charge of Science. Magic flew around Science as students, spellbound by fun, enjoyed lessons taught by professors and even Harry himself (the appearance of Mr Maurice-Smith with hair could only be magic!) BTEC Science were a little alarmed by a spell fight between Professor Mazengarb and Harry but enjoyed the spectacle and drama. All students were returned to their normal shape at the end of the contest which currently stands at one all. The day progressed buoyed by the fantastic generosity and good-willed spirit of students and staff as Science continued to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Cure Appeal.

However the event of the day must have been Arnold Hill's first ever Quidditch match! The crowd gathered and enthusiastic Gryffindor chants rang around the quadrangle as the crowd waited for Slytherin to grace the field of play. The match was refereed by Professor Long who did a fantastic job controlling a match between these two feuding houses. The match was competitive with daring moves performed by both teams. Passion, commitment and a clear determination to beat their rivals was apparent in all the players. Slytherin took an early lead only to be overtaken by Gryffindor 10points to 30. The game proved to be a real challenge for the two seekers but Potter (Gryffindor) was the first to seize the elusive snitch which sealed the victory for Gryffindor.

Slytherin voiced concerns that the match was not fair but when asked in a post match interview Harry would only comment "That's so Slytherin!"

By the end of the day Science had raised ?179 to add to their charity account. Once again the students of Arnold Hill have shown that small change can make big differences.

Mr Maurice-Smith was ecstatic about the day. "The students, staff and my faculty team were all brilliant. It has been such a fun day for a good cause and we still been learning and working hard! It's been a truly magical day. We wondered if we could ever match National Pirates day but this was even better. I would just like to say a special thank you to the 6th formers who played the part of the Slytherin Quidditch team. They gave up their time, effort and money to take part to support our cause and the day wouldn't have been as good without them. They are a fantastic bunch of very competitive people and they were a pleasure to work with and compete against".

Vague rumours have been heard that plans are already in place for an unusual Christmas event...

Please note the Science faculty will happily receive donations of small change (1p, 2p or 5p) at any time towards the cause). All money raised is to support the on-going mission to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
