"Small change makes big differences" š
Wednesday September 19th was National "Speak like a pirate" day and saw the launch of the Science Faculty's year long charity appeal to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Cure Campaign. Science teachers and technicians walked the decks in full pirate garb much to the delight and frequent "Arrrrrr-ing" of the students. It was business as usual in lessonsš but with many a cry of "Work harder you land-lubbers!" and "Shiver me timbers, you're right" š
Students were encouraged to donate their loose change to the appeal and were fantastically supportive both in science and in the school canteens. š "It has been a fantastic day. We've had so many smiles and words of encouragement. As technicians we don't get the chance to have fun with students as much as we would like and they really have been great." said Mrs Truman, Chemistry technician. š
The day took a surprising turn when the Nottingham evening post arrived unexpectedly at lunchtime for an interview and photo-shoot. It proved to be a challenge for the pirates to keep a straight face whilst snarling and arrrr-ing at each other in search of the perfec photo! š By the end of the day a fantastic £174 had been raised with more still being donated. š Students have been encouraged to collect up their 1ps, 2ps, 5ps and 10ps and donate them to the appeal throughout the Year with a target of raising £2000. Judging by the hefty bags of change delivered the following day this is a causešour fantasic studentsšhave taken to thier hearts. š
An unconfirmed rumour from an unnamed source hinted the "Hogwarts" might be found where Science was around Halloween!!
Update: the amount raised has now reached £204 and still rising!
